Typically, October 31st is considered the spookiest day of the year, but this year, November 1st proved to be equally creepy as Zombies and Zombie Catchers took over the fields at the Chestermere Rec Centre for the 2nd annual Zombie Crusher. This fun, all ages 1km or 5km walk or run was organized by the partnerships of CRPCN, Chestermere Walks, Chestermere Rec Centre, Chestermere Public Library, Stepping Stones, Alberta Mental Health and Synergy.
Participants were offered free zombie face painting by volunteers of YELL, a Zombie Crusher toque and the possibility of winning a draw prize. There was the choice of a leisurely walk around the soccer field, or if you were feeling brave, you could take your chances against the Zombie Catchers (a.k.a. YELL kids) on the bigger loop out by the ball diamonds. Zombie Catchers waited patiently with nerf guns in hopes of stealing the flags that were tied to the Zombie’s arms…. Return to the home tent with flags still tied to you, and prizes awaited.
Participants did pay an entry fee for the event. $10/individual and $25/family with funds raised going back into the community to the Synergy group.
A special thanks goes out to all who organized, participated and volunteered for the event and the awesome team at the Waiting Room Café’ for donating yummy coffee to the event.
Despite old man winter showing up, the event was definitely fun for all!
