Here is a preview of one of the artisans who will showcased during Arts Days:
Ellen Lorne was born in Alberta and attended evening classes at the College of Art in Calgary for 2 years when her children were young. She did not paint again until she retired in 1999. She studied with well known painters such as Jack Rigoux, Jean Geddes, Doug Swinton, and took workshops from Mike Svob, Jerry Markham and Alan Wylie, to name a few.
Ellen paints mostly from her own photographs of landscapes, horses, cattle but also loves to paint old Calgary street scenes. She has exhibited and sold paintings at juried shows, such as the Western Art Gallery, Calgary Stampede; Alberta Community Art Clubs Association; Federation of Canadian Artists Calgary (all shows since 2010); and the Leighton Art Centre, as well as many private shows. Most recently she was accepted into the Western Art Auction at the 2014 Calgary Stampede where her painting “8th Avenue Calgary 1920” was auctioned off.
She is a member of Leighton Art Centre, Federation of Canadian Artists, Calgary Society of Artists, all since 2012. She is also a member of the Chestermere Fine Art Guild, of which she is a founding member.
Ellen says she plans on painting as long as she can hold a paint brush.
Chestermere Arts Days takes place September 26 – 27 in various locations around Town. More information and a schedule of events can be found at www.chestermere.ca/artsdays.
