Be a responsible, good neighbor

An ad in The Anchor this week reads… “Shop Mom &Pop – support locally owned businesses….while we try to do that – Starbucks may not be one of them!!
As residents of Westmere, we regularly walk our dog along the power lines behind Tirecraft. We have noticed several piles of plastic containers located in amongst the bushes. On one of our walks we took a closer look and were surprised to find that they were all ” Starbucks ” flavoring bottles – dozens of them- in six different piles. We visited Starbucks and informed them of the discarded bottles and seemed reassured that they would look after the cleaning them up . The Staff seemed genuinely surprised and concerned – they told us they place their recycling items in a locked bin next to Rice King and weren’t really sure how they would have gotten into the bushes. Days, and then a couple more weeks went by and still no clean up was done . Again, I visited Starbucks and spoke to a day Supervisor who said “they were aware of the dumped bottles and she would talk to her manager about getting them cleaned up. She claimed that the lock to their recycling bin had gone “missing”. Come on Starbucks – how long does it take!! While I am sure you want to find out how the bottles got there, more importantly – Be a responsible, good neighbor and pick up your garbage !!
