There is no better way to experience Chestermere’s longest running event than to jump in and be part of the action! Volunteer Coordinator Bhupinder Billing has set up a great sign-up webpage for the Red Ribbon Competition that takes place in the curling rink —just click, click and you are in! There are jobs for lots of skill sets, and jobs for young and old! Starting with setting up on Thursday night September 11th, bring the kids, skirting tables and setting out the signs is easy for even little ones. Friday is entry take-in a very busy time so lots of help needed taking entries into the curling rink starting 11am to 6:30pm–two hour shifts are usual, and older kids welcome. And Friday evening, the action heats up as many volunteers are needed to walk with the judges ( maybe even sampling!), place ribbons and note the winners on the big data base to calculate the Grand Aggregate and the 8 other trophies plus school with most entries! Saturday starting 10am is when all the competitors come to check out their entries, pick up prize money and also there is the amazingly successful Pie Auction in support of STARS. As you can see, lots of different activities, all of which need a few helping hands. How to sign up or see what is available? Go to this weblink and click ‘sign up’ you will get a confirmation message, a reminder and if some emergency comes up you can always go back and bow out. https://www.volunteersignup.org/7848W Or find out more on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ChestermereCountryFair?fref=ts
The Red Ribbon is more successful than many Fairs in southern Alberta–in fact, information from the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies says that Chestermere’s is one of the last big fairs in a small town! Let’s keep it that way, a little bit of help from many will do just that and make it bigger and better than ever.
