Chestermere Lake is a 4.8 km long lake that provides many opportunities for residents and visitors to relax and enjoy the water with activities such as boating (wakeboarding, waterskiing, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating, sail boating), fishing, and swimming.
For the longest time there were only two public places in Chestermere that you could go swimming – Sunset Park and the Anniversary Park, but neither of those parks had a sandy beach. Why isn’t John Peake Park included in that list? Because it is a boat launch site; not exactly the safest place you want your children to be swimming around in.
It’s past time that another beach is added to the list as we make it known that the Cove beach is open to the public. Residents of Chestermere have already been making good use of the sandy beach, shady trees, basketball court, tennis court, and jungle gym during the hot days of summer. However, not everything is fun and light; there have been some problems with the Cove beach namely teenage smoking.
And parents have expressed increasing concern about teenage smoking at the Cove Park and what influences and impacts it will have on their children. All that can be said at present is that the Cove is a public park so the same bylaws would apply to behavior as is expected in our other public parks. If residents have concerns about activities taking place in the parks, they are welcome to contact the Peace Officers at (403) 207-7058.
Anniversary Park, where your kids once paddled and skateboarded is, obviously, still undergoing construction and landscaping. It is scheduled to be completed this fall but a specific date has not yet been determined or released for the opening of the park because the sod will need time to settle and establish itself before residents are allowed to use the park.
Just hang in there Chestermere; you may not be able to use Anniversary Park this summer but when the sun of 2015 shines down we’re sure you’ll have a blast!
