As the sun began to set on September 24th, families gathered with shovels in hand to plant trees at the 2014 Birth Forest Planting. The Birth Place Forest is located at the corner of West Chestermere Drive and Cavendish Beach Bay and is now the home to sixteen new trees that were planted at this event.
The Streetscape Committee were the organizers behind the tree planting and had sent out a call to families living in Chestermere that had a child born in the last twelve months. Families then completed an application form and paid a fee, thus getting a tree recognizing the birth of their little one.
The park quickly filled with adorable babies and their proud parents and grandparents. As families began to plant their trees and fill in the pre-dug holes with the soil provided by the Town of Chestermere, turning what once was a bare green space, quickly into a gorgeous forest planted with love.
The trees selected for planting are all fruit bearing varieties, so as the trees mature, the families can return and pick the fruit from their tree. Right now the trees are marked with a ribbon so they are identifiable to the families that planted them…but next month there will be plaques places at each tree for the families and the rest of the community to enjoy for years to come.
