On April 22, 2014 in council chambers at Chestermere Town Hall, two Chestermere firefighters were awarded the Alberta Emergency Services Medals for their dedication and commitment to emergency services.
The recipients of the round polished nickel medals were firefighter Keith Burley and Captain Craig Passmore. It is awarded based on twelve years’ service.
“Both gentlemen put in countless hours in order to be eligible for these prestigious medals and the end result is an upgrade to their skills which benefit us all,” said Mayor Patricia Matthews. “Our community is so fortunate to have such dedicated firefighters.”
Captain Craig Passmore feels this medal is particularly special because of who it comes from, “Having a previous career in the Canadian Forces I have received a few medals from Queen and Country but this is the first one I have received from a community and that means so much to be recognized for working hard and the dedication I have put into Chestermere Fire Services.”
The medal is suspended by a blue ribbon with three white stripes. The blue colour represents the Province of Alberta and the white for good service, loyalty and conduct.
