Since its creation in September 2007, the Chestermere Food Bank has been organized and ran by dedicated volunteers. Those volunteers take time out of their busy lives to help those individuals and families in Chestermere that need one of the most basic things in life, food.
Although the food bank serves the community all year round, and also accepts donations year round, during the holiday season, it becomes a bigger need. December 15th and 16th, the Chestermere Food Bank was in full Holiday spirit as they prepped Christmas hampers for those in the community that so desperately need a hand during, what can be, a very difficult time of year.
This year, thirty five Christmas hampers were made, all uniformly designed with all the fixings to make a delicious Christmas dinner. On December 17th, the Food Bank volunteers spent the morning turning the MPP room of the Chestermere Recreation Centre into a place where those needing help from the Food Bank could come, pick up their Christmas hamper and also select from other items that have been generously donated from members of the community.
“The support and donations from the community really does mean so much to us at the Chestermere Food Bank,” said Mardi with the food bank. It was mentioned that the Chestermere Food Bank did not have to spend any money for this year’s Christmas hampers, all items were donated.
