Bike Ride Against Bullies – Arriving at the Rec Centre

Perseverance was definitely the word of the day for the kids and parents that braved the murky weather to cycle all the way from Rainbow Creek Elementary School to the Chestermere Recreation Centre. The funds raised from this event go toward the Synergy anti-bullying program. The Oilmen were also in charge of the world’s longest hockey game that happened in May and was held in the Chestermere Recreation Centre’s hockey rinks.

This event has been going for about a year and is dedicated to making the community aware of how detrimental bullying is to our children. Bullying is a crime and not to be taken lightly. These cyclists took a stand against bullying by biking through Chestermere.

Each child that participated received a medal which they wore with pride throughout the remainder of the day.

It is also rumored that the peace walk that has been done for the past few years by YELL might be combined with the bike ride against bullies in coming years.

The bicycle ride was a success, with a larger than expected turnout for a first time event, and the way the weather turned out. Hot dogs, donuts, juice boxes, and comics awaited the kids and parents that completed the bike ride.

Perseverance won the day!
