In the early morning hours of October 16th, around 1am, a serious fire was reported at the Rangeland RV dealership near Balzac as flames shot out of a building onsite. With the fire engulfing one of the service buildings, Rocky View County Fire Services responded quickly from the nearby Balzac Fire Hall. Additional help also came from several surrounding areas, including Langdon.
The situation became significantly more serious when it was realized that there was a problem with getting water to the scene to help fight the blaze and the large quantity of propane tanks that were on the premises. A make shift holding tank was assembled where by trucks were sent on a constant cycle to pick up water, dump it in a holding tank and then go back out to fill up again.
Luckily, there was no one hurt in the blaze or in the fighting of the fire. The dealership’s main showroom, service building and numerous vehicles were heavily damaged and the dollar-loss is expected to be very high. Fortunately, the fire did not spread through the lot or into nearby properties. Although the cause of the fire is not yet known, at this time, foul play is not being considered.
The dealership remains closed and as all their phone lines are down, they are asking that people stay away from the site and contact them through their Facebook page.
