Fraud Over $5000.00

Strathmore, Alberta

On December 4th, 2014 the Strathmore RCMP Detachment received a complaint of suspected fraudulent activity. The complainant, a resident of Strathmore, indicated that they had been contacted via telephone by a representative of ‘Mega Millions’ based out of Washington, DC and instructed to forward a large sum of money, via bank transfer, in order to claim their multi million dollar prize. The investigation showed previous reports of alleged fraud involving the same company based out of Las Vegas, NV.

The Strathmore RCMP suggest anyone receiving these types of requests for money transfers and/or personal information, including credit card numbers, to be wary prior to making these types of transmissions and contact Phone Busters at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll free at 1-888-495-8501 or your local RCMP Detachment for more information.
