This year The Chestermere Ag Society “Preserving Our Skills” will be featuring items made with rhubarb! And the committee is seeking ‘rhubarb’ donors in order that they can give all participants samples of the items being made to take home.

Preserving Our Skills will happen twice this season, first on Saturday June 21st 10am to 4pm at the CRCA Multi-Purpose Room–that is when we will be using the rhubarb. Make some fresh mint chutney first, then a cooked chutney, then jam with no pectin, and after lunch–a rhubarb strawberry pie with flaky pastry crust!

But…the Country Fair Committee needs your help. Let us know if you have a rhubarb patch and will be willing to provide some of this amazing vegetable–that we usually think of as a fruit! In our northern climate, it is a harbinger of spring and one of the first things that we can harvest from our gardens. Anyone with rhubarb to donate in June ( pickers will be provided!) please call Jen at 403 272 3764 or Carol at 403 272 7170 x 223. Or you can go to the Country Fair Facebook pages and send a PM. https://www.facebook.com/#!/ChestermereCountryFair

The second ‘Preserving Our Skills’ will feature pickling and will be August 16th, check the Coming Events in this Anchor for more details on how to register.
