Gypsy & The Rose

Farewell Candie and Rene Schmidt and Good Luck

Never heard of the Gypsy & The Rose? Well, here is everything you need to know from their website.

‘Gypsy & The Rose, based out of Chestermere, are a very versatile group that offers a variety of well played music. Rene and Candie Schmidt are Gypsy and the Rose and perform as a duo, trio or full band, adding members based on a client’s needs and budget.

Their musical careers have taken them around the world and back again to reside and work in Chestermere where they both teach music and continue to perform at various corporate functions, casinos and clubs throughout Alberta. They have two CD’s of original music to their credit, "The Dine-O-Mite Café" and self titled "Gypsy & The Rose", both of which received radio airplay here in Canada and in Europe as well as two supporting music videos that received rotation on CMT’.

See – there are celebrities in our midst and we didn’t even realize it until they decide to pack up and move to Penticton British Columbia.

From Vicki Klinger about her friend Candie: ‘All I can say is that Candie has a heart of gold and that there isn’t much that she would do to help anyone out whether it was a community event or something more personal.  Even when things when wrong, she was always able to put a smile on her face and would do her best to make the best of the situation.  She was definitely a bright light in Chestermere and her husband Renee and their son Django were definitely the "wind beneath her wings" as without their support Candie would not have been able to do all the things she was able to accomplish.  The Musical Theatre Program at the Rec Centre was saved and nourished by Candie and she built up a fantastic group of singers and performers that became a "family" and how much she will be missed was shown by the many families who came to the Dockside Diner last Thursday to say goodbye.  There were lots of tears as we will all miss Candie and her family and also lots of well wishes for their new endeavors in the Penticton area. Candie is hoping that anyone coming out that way will give her a call and stop and say hi.  I know I will be!’

Rene and Candie Schmidt also had a recording studio for anyone who wanted to record a demo or full CD project. Candie Schmidt also had a hand in teaching the younger generation the wonders and fun of the dramatic arts.

Friends, family, and former drama students arrived at the Dockside Diner on Thursday to bid farewell to beloved Rene and Candie Schmidt. Even those who didn’t know the Schmidts were welcomed to come and meet them and then say goodbye. There were balloons, cupcakes, and special, sentimental gifts for the departing celebrities.

Goodbye and good luck Rene and Candie Schmidt as you pack up and move to British Columbia. We hope they appreciate you as much as Chestermere has over the years.
