I have the best job ever. I love my job! What is not to love about it? I get to meet, and work with, really great people and help them reach their goals. Over the years, I have also been fortunate to make some really good friends through training.
From time to time, I write about some of the wonderful people that I am lucky enough to work with. It is hard not to share with others how amazing some of these people are. I would like to say I write about my favorite clients but they are all my favorites in their own way.
While I always respect the privacy of my clients sometimes, even without mentioning names, it is possible for others to know who I am talking about. I always get approval from the client I am writing about and usually give them a sneak peek at the article before it’s submitted so they are never caught off guard.
This week I wanted to share how proud I am of a client that I started working with at the beginning of this year. When we first met, she introduced herself as a lost cause. After struggling with weight for years, she was convinced that nothing would work and she was destined to live in an overweight body suffering from chronic pain.
Shortly into our training, it was apparent that her mindset would be our toughest obstacle. She was doing the workouts, hiding in her living room, and hating every minute of them. In an effort to help her realize she could have some fun with her workouts I had to get her out of hiding.
Knowing it would take her completely out of her comfort zone, I suggested that she join me in a fun 5-kilometer charity run and walk. While intrigued with the fun aspect, she knew she couldn’t run and at the time (6 months ago) she wasn’t confident she would be able to walk 5 kilometers either.
With some targeted workouts, I was confident that in the 6 months she would be prepared. Her eagerness surprised me: in addition to our workouts she started walking on her own and recruited some friends to join her in the event.
The charity run and walk was last weekend. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend but I did get to hear all about it. Not only did my client complete the entire 5 kilometers but she ran part of it too! The best part of hearing how well she did was her excitements and plans to do another. While it took some time, I think she has found her motivation.
In a very short 8 months she continuously surprises herself and those around her. While the stats speak for themselves: she has lost over 35 pounds, shed 40 inches and she is still going strong, it isn’t just about losing the weight. She is slowly discovering what her body can do and that she is capable of accomplishing what she sets her mind to. She is gaining confidence and transforming her mind just as she is transforming her body. I am so excited about how much she has accomplished in the last few months and can’t wait to see how much more she can do.
Working with my clients and helping them realize what they are capable of makes me love what I do.
