On any regular day, John Peake park can be found as the host to many residents of Chestermere having a picnic, playing a game of Frisbee or going for a walk along the path. But on September 27, 2014, the park went to the dogs….literally.
The Canadian Cancer Society held a fundraising dog walk called ‘Bark for Life’ to celebrate the lives of those who survived cancer, remembered loved ones lost to cancer and to fight back against the disease.
Dogs of all breed, size and personality filled the park with their eager owners to participate in a walk that supports a cause so near and dear to many people. The walk raised $3375 and that money will go towards funding the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society which is eradicating cancer and improving the quality of life for those living with it.
Sponsors of the event included Paradise Kennels, The Chestermere Anchor, Chestermere Veterinary Clinic, Kiss Productions and CIR Realty.
Event organizers stated that dogs are not just pets but are loved family members. So many cancer suffers have said that their dog was one of the biggest supports during their battle with this horrible disease.
No matter if you took part in the walk on two feet or four, no doubt that everyone participating had a loved one, family member or friend that they were carrying in their hearts.
