First of all, a bit of a back story on the Langdon Skateboard Competition according to Tiffany Vaughan:
‘I attended my first Langdon Community Association Meeting back in June. We were about ¼ of the way into the meeting when there was a knock on the door. In walks this young man with a backpack and a skateboard.
His name is Tyler Homonko and he has lived in Langdon for many years. He came to the meeting to pitch an idea to the LCA for the upcoming Langdon Days festivities. His idea was called “Project Legacy”, which was a skateboarding competition to primarily serve and showcase the youth in Langdon, who participate, or take interest in skateboarding, music, festive activities and culture. His idea and presentation skills were very impressive.
Tyler wants to make the community understand that there are some really great kids that live in our wonderful hamlet, that not all of “them” are bad and up to no good. He wants the younger kids in this town to know that it is safe to hang out at the skateboard park and there are older “kids” there that will watch out for them, even show them a trick or two!
The Project Legacy Skateboard Competition was scheduled for Langdon Days back on July 20th. Due to some nasty weather that rolled in during the competition, it has been held over until this coming Saturday, August 9th.’
Back to present day, the sun was shining and no signs of stormy weather on August 9th, the day of the competition and many eager contestants came to toss their skateboards into the ring. Money from the competition will be going toward expanding the skateboard park, which is amazing considering the already immense size of the Langdon skateboard park.
The results from the competition are unavailable at this time but we hope to have a short write up for them next week. Keep an eye out for them if you knew someone who was skateboarding in the competition and enjoy some of the pictures we snapped of the skaters in motion!
