A new public art installation has been completed along the pathway north of the Town Hall building. This is a beautiful installation comprised of about twenty stainless steel stylized bulrush stalks. The stalks are ideally situated within the backdrop of the bulrushes that hug the shoreline. This installation is the culmination of a two-year project by the Town of Chestermere’s streetscape committee. The artist, who was engaged to complete the project, is Illarion Gallant. Illarion is a well-respected artist who has done a number of installations in Canada. If you have visited Victoria you may have seen one of his well-known pieces – Commence Canoe. He also did the rye grass installation at the south end of West Chestermere Drive.
Funding for the installation has come from The Town of Chestermere and from individual donors. You may purchase a bulrush stalk with a donation of $500. This will ensure engraving of the donor’s name on the stalk or placed on a plaque. Contact for donation is wpeddles@telus.net.
