The Chestermere Fine Art Guild welcomes everyone to their 12th Annual Art Show and Sale titled “Art and Soul 2014” on Saturday, May 31 from 10am to 4pm at the Chestermere Recreation Centre in the MPP room.
This year the Guild members are honoured to showcase Peg (Margaret) Taylor’s donated original artwork as the door prize. The Art Guild, which Peg has been with since shortly after its inception in 2002, also proudly displays her art in all their poster ads.
Peg’s story begins in 1928. Born in South Wales and immigrating to Canada in 1947, she received her teaching degree at the University of Alberta in 1949. As a child Peg tells us she was always sketching and drawing but it wasn’t until after raising 9 children with her husband, Nick Taylor, of 55 years, that she started painting in oils. She was enjoying it so much that she decided to go back to school and at the age of 50 achieved her Bachelors of Fine Art from the University of Calgary. With her formal accreditation, extensive adventures in world travel, many activities including ballet, sewing and skiing, and having called many Alberta communities home through Nick’s political career, Peg has many interesting stories and experiences to put on canvas.
Gracious and charming, Peg is the first to assist a budding artist and share her wealth of knowledge as an artist and as the amazing lady that she is. As well her wonderful sense of humour is a welcome diversion to our Thursday afternoon weekly group art sessions. In her spare time she enjoys taking in art classes, demos and the PBS art series to continue to learn and add to her portfolio.
Peg states how when she is halfway through painting one picture her ideas for the next piece of art take form giving her the ability to create a new painting weekly. She has produced numerous realism art works in still life, landscape, and portrait which have been displayed at numerous juried and unjuried art shows. Her preference is oils, although she has dabbled in acrylic as well as painting on tile (some proudly incorporated in her husband’s fireplace in his den).
Do come and meet Peg and all the other artists thrilled to showcase their work this year, at their “Art and Soul 2014” show.
Chestermere is very fortunate to have such a large base of artists per capita, and the Guild members thank the community for their support of all of the arts.
