The Chestermere Red Ribbon Committee was happy to present 22 very colourful handmade pillow cases to Donations Coordinator Joy Park of ‘Inn from the Cold’ on November 28th. The pillow cases were partly from the pillow case challenge competition at the September 2014 Red Ribbon Competition, but mainly ones made by Heather Bailey and her quilting friends! These cases will come in very handy for residents at the Inn. When Pat Tindall and I made the delivery, we spoke with Joy Park, Donations Coordinator. As Joy stated, “There is always a need for pillow cases that have been hand crafted, as well as other crafted items such as ‘Storage Sacks’ (like pillow cases but with a drawstring) for residents to use to transport their personal items, and also NEW linens ( must be in original packaging)”. Other hand crafted items they are happy to accept; quilted blankets (lap, baby, twin, queen); curtains/drapery items and small quantities of the following hand-knit items; slippers/headbands; blankets; tea towels; facecloths and potholders/trivets/table protectors.
If you can create or buy any of these items, they would be much appreciated right now, and in fact, all year long. Joy stated that, surprisingly, summer is their greatest time of need–so if you are a speedy sewer or knitter, take some in before Christmas, but if not keep in mind what you might be able to create during these long winter nights to donate to the Inn next spring!
Red Ribbon Helps at The Inn–you can too!
