Focus TaeKwon-Do, a Chestermere based club, had 20 competing members at this years Tri-Provincial Championship held at SAIT in Calgary on October 18, 2014. Competitors, ranging in age from 6 to 49 years old, started training long before the actual tournament. In fact for five weeks prior to the big day the club added an extra two and half hour work out session to their regular Tuesday/Thursday regime.

As the excitement built the competitors and their families packed snacks to sustain, made sure their Dobok’s were cleaned and their gear ready for sparring.
At the end of the day those 20 dedicated competitors took home 30 medals (16 Gold, 9 Silver, 5 Bronze). One of the best medalling results in the clubs history according to Owner and Head Instructor, Aimee Maund. “I am extremely proud of my club and the students who competed. It takes a lot to put your self out there and compete,” she says. Despite the nerves and butterflies the competitors had smiles on their faces as they cheered for their peers and watched the competition. Miss Maund, a fifth dan black belt, states that she loves seeing the smiles on her students’ faces as they realize their goals. “My students work hard and that hard work paid off!” Maund states. Following a fantastic day at the tournament the competitors and their families gathered for a pizza party celebration, just one of the many things this family oriented club does to encourage a supportive environment.

The Tri-Provincial Championship Tournament was also used for pre-qualifications for the International tournament next June in Italy. Focus TKD has two members (Aimee Maund and Meghan Pollock) who will be trying out for Team Canada to represent Canada, their federation (ICTF) and community.

Focus TaeKwon-Do meets year round at the Chestermere Recreation Centre and competes locally, nationally and internationally as members of ICTF (International Chang Ho Taekwon-do Federation). If you think you might be interested in checking out what Taekwon-Do is all about you are invited to come try a class for free Tuesday/Thursday from 6-7 at the MPP Room or contact Aimee Maund for more information www.focustkd.info
