What would we do without a newspaper, either print or electronic, to keep us in touch with what is happening in our community? Sure, today we have Facebook, Instagram and other electronic media, but those of us who lived what in the day was “way out here in Chestermere” were always scouring the papers for news of our community. Today we have a newspaper dedicated pretty much to covering Chestermere area news ( thanks Anchor!) but until the Anchor came along, we depended on a the other papers, The Rocky View Times, Rocky View Weekly, Five Village Weekly, and sometimes even the Calgary Herald to cover stories of our community.
Thanks to Audrey McDonald and particularly Elaine Peake who wrote The Village Voice news column, and Kim Soderberg, many of these articles were clipped and saved so that today we can look at the originals and enjoy those stories that made the papers and read the community news columns. A few of these can be found reproduced in Chestermere A Home for All Seasons, the local history book.
On Tuesday January 20th (time TBA) Audrey will be taking another huge box of these to the Chestermere Public Library and is seeking a few willing hands to sort, and place these in plastic sleeves to be archived in our own Chestermere Library. No training needed. If you would be able to give her a hand, (and take peek at the articles at the same time!) please call her at 403 272-9280 or email at audrey8@telus.net
