The Army Cadets is an amazing opportunity to learn about your country, acquire a number of valuable skills, and achieve things as a young adult that few adults would consider doing. A few of the things that Army Cadets are able to look forward to are smart uniforms, summer camp, and even overseas exchanges. The Army Cadet Exchange program has long been an aspect of summer training that most developing senior cadets have strived for.
17 year old Cadet Warrant Officer Kyle Bruneau from 3125 Calgary Highlander’s Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Chestermere, Alberta, had an amazing and well deserved opportunity to represent Canada this summer while training in Australia. Army Cadet Exchange, Australia, is an advanced training course offered to senior cadets participating in the Canadian Cadet Program who have displayed dedication, knowledge, and perseverance at their local cadet unit and previous summer training courses.
OCdt Kelvin Chu, Public Affairs Officer with the Connaught Cadet Training Centre National Defence / Government of Canada, says that Kyle Bruneau joined cadets to meet new people from all around the country; he has traveled to various historical places in Europe and has most recently been able to meet Australian cadets and travel down under. Kyle has been awarded the Lord Strathcona medal of Excellence, as well as his 4 and 5 year service medal at his home corps. He is going into his grade 12 year at École Francophone d’Airdrie. In his spare time he enjoys coaching basketball, hunting and traveling.
The Canadian Cadet Program offers a wide variety of exchange opportunities every year. Each of these advanced courses provides a unique opportunity for cadets who have completed the mandatory program to apply their skills in challenging new environments, as well as develop entirely new ones. Selected individuals represent the best of the Canadian Cadet Program and act as true ambassadors of Canada!
Connaught Cadet Training Centre is not exclusively home to International Exchanges, but also to the Royal Canadian Army Cadet National Rifle Team. The cadet program is designed to develop strong citizenship and leadership qualities for youth between the ages of 12-18. The program also aims to promote physical fitness, and stimulate interest in the activities of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The 3125 Calgary Highlander Cadet Corps parades every Monday Night at 6:30pm at Camp Chestermere. Cadets is a zero cost youth program from teens aged 12-18 that welcomes both boys and girls! They invite anyone who might be interested in learning more about them, or has a child interested in joining to come check them out or you can learn more by visiting www.chestermerecadets.com
