On Monday June 29, 2015, the Human Services Advisory Board (HSAB) hosted a cheque presentation at the Municipal Office. The HSAB is composed of Chestermere residents as well as two city councillors and its objectives are to increase community capacity by supporting local agencies and organizations to provide programs and services, to assess the educational needs of community serving organizations and to identify community needs and set funding priorities to address those needs. One of their primary purposes is the review and assessment of funding applications to determine eligibility, prioritize and then make recommendations to the Director of Community Services.
Early in May a call went out for any non-profit and volunteer projects to submit an application for Special Project Funding for any projects running from July 1 – December 31, 2015. The HSAB reviewed those applications, made their decisions and those cheques were awarded at the June 29th presentation. The recipient were:
Camp Chestermere – $ 4,740.00 presented to Assistant Director Colin Daws along with the CLTD Leaders in support of Professional Leadership and Teen Development through the CLTD program which assists teenage campers who want to further develop their leadership skills by exploring their abilities and talents while teaching them the importance of charity work and giving back.
Chestermere Regional Food Bank Foundation – $3,500.00 presented to Carolin Helder for Food Bank awareness, promotion and volunteer training.
Stepping Stones to Mental Health – $2,708.98 presented to Jodi Neetz in support of the Positive Ticketing program.
Synergy – $3,960.00 presented to Christy Redl in support of Empowering Minds Camp which uses experiential learning to teach youth confidence, motivation, resiliency, trust and empowerment.
The HSAB will be doing a call for funding applications in the fall of 2015 for projects/programs in 2016.
