Chestermere receives $6 Million Provincial and Federal Grant to upgrade Township Road 240

Chestermere, AB – Recently, officials at the City of Chestermere learned that the community will be the recipient of $6 Million of Provincial and Federal funding to assist with the upgrade of Township Road 240.

This is a significant grant for our community and means that we’ll be able to better market access to Chestermere for economic development as well as improve the drive for our residents.” said Mayor Patricia Matthews.
The road, currently gravel, is the only road in Chestermere’s borders that connects the east and west side of the city south of Chestermere Boulevard. With the growth of southern communities like Kinniburgh and Rainbow Falls, the road has seen a significant increase in usage in recent years.
Future plans for the south parts of Chestermere include adding more residential and non-residential development. As a key access to those areas, the upgrade of this road has become increasingly important to ensure that Alberta’s newest City can continue to grow.
City Council identified the road upgrade as a priority in the 2015-2016 budget but only as development occurred. The contribution from the Provincial and Federal Governments will now allow the City to begin the planning process for paving. The project will be phased in over the next few years with a goal of completing the project by 2018.
The grant will cover approximately two thirds of the project with the remainder to come from development offsite levies.
