Despite our almost spring like weather, Chestermere residents have been working their way into the holiday spirit. Beautiful Christmas lights are illuminating our streets, cute blown up characters decorate yards and Christmas cards have begun arriving in mailboxes. But nothing gets our city more in the mood for Christmas than the annual community Christmas party.
On Saturday December 5th, the amazing staff of the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre and many others hosted the annual Chestermere Community Christmas party. This Chestermere tradition is one that the community always looks forward to and it was no different this year.
The main hall was decorated top to bottom with twinkly lights and other holiday décor. Around the walls lined the tables of all those amazing supporters of the event who took time out of their busy schedules to give back to the community. Providing yummy treats, delicious coffee and crafts for the little ones, this event had something for everyone.
The event kicked off with the amazing young talent of the Chestermere High School band, which many event guests could be seen signing along and tapping a foot to the holiday music. The stage was adorned with a drum playing Santa who rocked away with all those that entertained the crowd throughout the day.
As the time came closer for Santa himself to arrive, you could literally feel the anticipation grow. Then, in he came with a big ‘Ho Ho Ho’ and the wonder and amazement in the sparkly eyes of the children anxious to get their time with the jolly man was nothing short of magical. Santa took his seat and the children lined up telling him of what they wanted for Christmas, and when asked if they were good this year…. a resounding ‘yes’ could be heard.
If you hadn’t yet finished your Christmas shopping, or even if you hadn’t yet started, the MPP room was filled with over 40 booths selling their wares. Everything from sparkly jewelry, gorgeous pieces of art or yummy treats – there was something for everyone on your shopping list.
In the true spirit of giving, this event was free to attend – but it was asked that attendees bring an item for the Chestermere Regional Food Bank. As the day progressed, the collection bins began to fill up as our community always goes over and above what is asked of them. Residents could be seen bringing bags of items and in no time, the bins were pretty filled up.
Thank you to all those who organize this amazing event and for all who participated and brought a bit of holiday spirit to our city. Happy Holiday Chestermere!
