Young local artists donate their artwork

This lovely piece, along with many others, can be found at the Chestermere Community Health Centre thanks to the donation from the Chestermere Lions Club and the generous artists who donated their work

Since opening its doors in January 2015, the Chestermere Community Health Center has been welcomed with open arms by the residents. Housing the Chestermere Mental Health clinic, the medical centre also offers lab services, home care and public health. However, if you’ve been to the clinic, you’ve likely noticed that the walls were a little bare. But that is no longer.
Alberta Health Services reached out and engaged local students to create artwork to help make the space family-friendly, and to reflect the community that they serve. AHS collaborated with all of the local schools to have students submit their artwork. “We worked with our planners, designers and local administration to determine which pieces would work the best and were the most reflective of the community. It was very difficult for us to make a final decision because we had so many lovely submissions,” says Marilyn McGregor, Director, North Rural and Community Health, Alberta Health Services.
Although the students generously donating their artwork, the project would not have been completed without a very generous donation by the Chestermere Lions Club. At an open house held on Wednesday June 10th, the Chestermere Lions Club presented a cheque to Alberta Health Services for $15,000.00. The Lions donation covered the cost of the enlargement of the artwork and the mounting of it.
Schools that participated are Chestermere High School, Chestermere Lake Middle School, East Lake School, Our Lady of Wisdom, Prairie Waters Elementary School and Rainbow Creek Elementary School.
This artwork is now proudly displayed in the waiting areas and in the hallways of the Chestermere Community Health Center located in Kinniburgh.
