County Report October

Langdon is a great place to live, it doesn’t have everything that it will have in time, but it does have some things that you just can’t get anywhere else. When you go to work in the morning the sun is behind you, when you come home in the evening, the sun is behind you again. You can go straight North and you are on a main Highway (#9) that can take you to the Northern parts of Alberta or Saskatchewan. You can go straight South and it takes you to a few different roads that take you to parts of Southern Alberta or to a US border. You can get on the Number 1 Highway that goes across Canada from a few different roads. And that’s just the location!

You can have a nice house without breaking the bank. Your lot is probably twice the size of the average lot in the city. You most likely know your neighbors… and their kids… and their dog, you may have sat in their, or your, garage and had a cool one (if you ran out there are 4 stores to buy more). Your taxes are lower than what 95% of what other Albertans pay, probably most of Canada for that matter. You can go to local stores and know the people that work there for the most part and you can drive thru or stop for coffee at a few places as well, you probably know someone there too.

In the last 5 years I have had the pleasure of representing this area on Rocky View County Council. I have tried to be extremely available and I think I might have succeeded. I say that because I constantly search for things to explain and things to improve. This form of media is great (newspaper) but others are useful as well. The immediacy of Social Media has given me the ability to get feedback and a wealth of topics to cover. I do that at Town Hall Meetings but thanks to the publishers of the Langdon News I can do it here now as well.

Just for fun I went back on a Langdon Politics Facebook group and made a list of “things to cover”, I will be doing that for at least the next few years, it isn’t exhaustive but it does have most things people like to talk about from time to time.
Here’s the list in no particular order: mosquitos, noise, streetlights, permits, garbage, policing, wastewater, storm water, street sweeping, dogs, fire bans, expenditures, ditches, schools, snow ploughing, Town status, speeding, sidewalks, recreation, Area Structure Plan, grass cutting, Taxes and crosswalks. I’m sure there is more and I am also sure I will cover many of them multiple times.

I look forward to keeping the information flowing and please let me know if you think of something else.

I can be reached on the phone at 403-999-2722 cell or 403-936-0777 at home and if you have any County issues please email me at rashdown@rockyview.ca.
