Don’t Forget the Pie Auction!

This will be the fourth year in a row that the Chestermere Red Ribbon Committee has organized an amazing pie auction to benefit a charity. Year one it was for the Regional Food Bank, and since that time the charity chosen has been STARS Air Ambulance. Over the years, nearly $10 000 has been raised from the talents of some pretty talented pie makers here in the Chestermere area and the intent is to push past that and beat the record of $3000 for 2014. Back in 2009, there were so few who knew how to make flaky pastry and a decent pie that the Certified Agriculture Judges were unable to give a first and second prize to the pies entered in the Chestermere Red Ribbon that year. Not any more!!
If you would like to make a pie for STARS this year, and see how many people you can get to bid for YOUR pie, you will need register ahead of time. The pies are made starting at 6:30pm on the evening of September 9th in the Multipurpose Room at the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre. They are then frozen and fresh baked on Friday evening September 11th, then cooled and boxed ( in a special box that you can decorate!) and auctioned by Bill from Elevate Auction on Saturday September 12th at 2:30pm in the Curling Rink at the Regional Recreation Centre.
To register you can send an email to chestermereagsociety@gmail.com or call Jen 403 272 3764 or Pat 403 273 5108. BUT you must call in on or before Friday September 4th. All ingredients for your crust will be provided, as well as a pie plate and box. All fillings must be provided by you, as well as mixing utensils, bowls, measuring cups etc. If you are registered you will be contacted with a reminder beforehand and a list of items to bring.
Please note: The Red Ribbon Booklet Pie Auction poster has INCORRECT contact information for registering, do not send your registration to accounting@chestermerecrca.com, or use the phone number on the poster, please send to the above email or phone. Check out the pastry recipe on the Chestermere Country Fair Red Ribbon Facebook page and practice up your pastry and pie skills!
