This pond, which can be seen at the corner of Hwy 1A (17th Ave) & Garden Road, is now the home to some very lucky ducks!

For over 50 years, Mountain View Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home have been serving the families of Calgary and area. Typically a place of sanctuary and reverence, on Thursday June 18th, it was full of the beautiful laughter of children and the excitement of watching the ducks come home.
For over twenty years, Mountain View has hosted the School Duck Party where they have invited schools to bring their students to their annual duck release. For the few months prior to the party, the school ducklings have been lovingly cared for by students of ten elementary schools across Calgary and some from Chestermere. Now that they are fully grown, the ducks were ready to be released into the ponds at Mountain View.
“We are proud to offer our cemetery ponds as a home for the ducks and let the children, and the Calgary community, visit them throughout the summer,” said Les McMahon, Manager at Mountain View.
There was music, dancing, games, a pizza lunch and one of the highlights for the students was definitely the ducks mascot that kept the party going and had everyone on their feet.
As the grand moment arrived, the sea of children – all seated near the pond – parted and the ducks waddled through the crowd of excited kids and quickly found their way to the pond. Making quite the splash and putting on quite the performance for the students, what a beautiful sight to see these once tiny furry ducklings now majestically swimming in the pond they now call home.
