Everyone knows that for ten days in July, the cowboy boots and hats come out and everyone seems to find their country side. For Chestermere, this annual event, hosted by CBRE Limited and Melcor brings a little bit of that Stampede spirit to our city.
On July 9th 2015, the parking lot at Chestermere Station Way was transformed into a Stampede BBQ like no other. Hay bales, the smell of burgers on the grill and country music entertained the large crowd – all decked out in the western wear.
Free burgers and hotdogs were provided by M & M Meats, with a donation to the Chestermere Regional Food Bank. Live music by the Denver Daines Band, face painting and entertainment by Dottie the Clown & Friends and also two mascots were on hand to keep attendees of all ages entertained. A visit was also made by members of Chestermere RCMP and Chestermere Fire Service.
Representatives from Cowboys for a Cure, created by Kylie Scheers and her father Bill Scheers, were there. Cowboys for a Cure brings awareness and raises funds benefitting the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
With temperatures soaring that day around the 30 degree mark, plenty of people came out to take part of the festivities, enjoy some delicious food and gather as a community. Visiting with old friends and meeting new ones, it is events like this that building that sense of community that our city thrives on.
