Strathmore, Alberta – The RCMP can confirm that the 2-month old female infant that was seriously injured as a result of Friday’s collision has died of her injuries. The investigation into this serious fatal collision continues. When more information becomes available, it will be released to the media.
Background…July 24, 2015…Fatal Collision Investigation Highway 1 Near Calgary – Update #1
Strathmore, Alberta – As of 8:00 p.m., eastbound lanes of Highway 1 at Range Road 285 have re-opened following a serious fatal motor vehicle collision involving four vehicles east of Calgary.
On July 24th, 2015, at approximately 1:30 p.m. today, the Strathmore RCMP were dispatched to a serious four-vehicle-collision on Highway 1, at Range Road 285. RCMP investigators found that a total of 4 eastbound vehicles were involved. The adult male driver and lone occupant of a Chevrolet Panel Van and the adult male driver of a truck with attached fifth wheel was uninjured. The adult male driver and sole occupant of a Nissan Frontier sustained minor injuries and has since been released from an area hospital.
The fourth vehicle was a Hyundai Elantra, with a total of 4 four family members on board. The adult male driver was uninjured, however, an adult female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. A third male adult passenger and a 2-month-old female infant were transported to the nearest hospital, both with life threatening injuries. The male driver and deceased female passenger of the Hyundai Elantra are the parents of the 2-month-old infant, and the second male passenger is a family relation.
The investigation into this serious fatal collision continues and the RCMP is appealing to all witnesses to immediately call the Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968, or their local police service or Crime Stoppers.
Background…July 24, 2015…Highway 1 East of Calgary closed due to fatality collision
Strathmore, Alberta – Strathmore RCMP officers and emergency personnel are at the scene of a four-vehicles-collision on Highway 1 Eastbound on the East side of Calgary, Alberta.
One adult occupant was pronounced deceased on scene and one infant child was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
This multi-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m.
The two eastbound lanes of Highway 1 are closed for an undetermined period.
This situation is causing considerable delays and motorists are asked to use alternate routes.
The RCMP traffic analyst is attending and the matter is under investigation.
