On Friday September 25, 2015 around 3:30pm, fire and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a house fire in the area of High Point Estates which is just off Highway 241. Initially the call was for a possible house fire but while crews were on route, it was upgraded to a confirmed house fire. When crews arrived on scene, flames could be seen shooting out of the roof of the home and the structure was fully engulfed in flames.
Fire crews from Chestermere, Langdon, Rocky View County and Balzac were on scene along with EMS and RCMP. As there are no hydrants nearby, trucks rotated in an assembly line fashion to fill the portable water pool while trucks went and picked up more water.
Along with not having a close water source, another obstacle was the wind that had picked up that same afternoon. Crews began attacking the blaze from all sides, and although they were unable to save the home, they are to be commended for keeping the blaze from spreading to neighbouring homes. Crews remained at the scene for most of the night to ensure that no hot spots flared up and to keep the area secure.
Neighbours and witnesses reported that the male occupant of the home had left to run a quick errand and when he returned home a few minutes later, the home was engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is not known at this time and remains under investigation.
