The North Bow Community Facility Board (NBCFB) is a dedicated group of hard working volunteers committed to the development of sustainable community facilities and recreation amenities in the Langdon area. The NBCFB held its first meeting on March 22, 2004 made up of community members serving on service groups operating in the Langdon area. The board was incorporated under the Society’s Act of Alberta the following year.
In 2006, a forty five acre site was purchased in a collaboration with community partners; Rocky View County and Rocky View School Division. “This purchase was possible with generous donations from corporate sponsors and grant funding from the Province of Alberta and Rocky View County”, said the NBCFB.
This parcel of land will be the future home of Langdon’s high school, a recreation centre, and various outdoor playing surfaces; being named the Langdon Community Campus. “The site was not an ideal fit for the amenities planned and negotiations for a land swap with adjacent landowners were entered into. This swap was completed in 2013. The land is currently going through various engineering studies and plans and we hope to have access to the site in 2016”, said Bob Thomson, the founding member of the North Bow Community Facility Board.
Other board members include Corrie Carrobourg, Steph Brundige and Charmaine James.
Thomson continued, “For the past two years the NBCFB has been working with many community groups through the Langdon Community Collaboration, meeting to update and review the 2006 Randall and Conrad and Associates feasibility study identifying needed recreation amenities for the area. An amenities and priority listing has been identified”.
On November 25th, Western Financial Group presented a $12,000.00 cheque to the North Bow Community Facility Board. “The Langdon Branch of Western Financial Group approached Wawanesa to request support during one of our annual fundraisers. As Wawanesa wants to show their support in the communities that their partnering brokers conduct business in, they were pleased to donate the $12,000”, said Andrea Bell, Branch Manager at Western Financial Group.
Western Financial Group has participated in several other projects in the community by donating to the Langdon YELL Program, Indus Preschool, Langdon Tot Lot just to name a few.
“The generous donation from the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company will be earmarked for the future development of a quad baseball diamond on the site”, added Thomson.
