the past that made Chestermere Alberta's newest city

jen p Hear the History

Though we may not be a city that has a traditional main street, with a false front hotel, post office and train station, Chestermere’s past is one of the most interesting of any city in Alberta. From its start a century and more ago as farmland around a slough, through its central role with the Western Irrigation District, to an oasis destination, it is now Albertaís newest, fast growing city. Those dreamers and developers of 1911 who saw Chestermere as the a pleasure resort and swellest suburb of Calgary did not live to see that dream come true. However, we who call it home would certainly agree that it has become this and even more a city in its own right. If you are interested in hearing about the demographic, social, economic and political changes that have made Chestermere, attend a presentation by four members of the Chestermere Historical Foundation on Tuesday June 9th at the Chestermere Public Library Community Room starting at 7:00pm. The presentations will be based on those made to the Grade Seven students at Chestermere Middle School in March as part of their ‘Know It All’ Social Studies project. Chestermere a Home for All Seasons, the most recent and complete history book will be available for sale ( $48 no gst) as will memberships in CHF. No charge for the evening but an old fashioned silver collection will be taken at the door.
