On Tuesday June 2nd, the City of Chestermere’s Annual Senior’s Tea was held at the Municipal Building. Council Chambers was gorgeously transformed into a ‘bohemian tea house’ where seniors were treated to refreshments, tea readings and live music harpist Eily Sweeney of Eily Aurora.
Mayor Patricia Matthews was on hand and other members of City Council and City Staff to serve up tea, finger sandwiches and sweets to the valued guests.
“Thank you to all the seniors that came out in the rain to join us for this year’s Senior’s Tea. Staff at City Hall work hard to create an inviting and interesting event to honour all of our seniors and we’re so glad to see everyone who made it. This year we not only got to drink tea with these wonderful folks but got to hear their tea leaves read too!” said Mayor Matthews.
This annual event has been going on so long it was hard to find someone that could pin point exactly when this community tradition started but it has been at least over twenty years that this event has been hosted by the City. The number of seniors that attended was down this year, but those that attended say they had a lovely time visiting and enjoying the event.
