Now that winter is over, the grass is green and the leaves have woken from their slumber, many residents of Chestermere have turned their sights to planting and gardening. The fantastic folks that work at Chestermere Public Works have been working hard weeding, fertilizing, watering and planting all around our beautiful city. So, when the team at Brightpath Early Learning & Child Care contacted them wanting to do their part, a plan was put into motion.
The staff and children at Brightpath wanted to do their part in helping plant and maintain a flower bed within the city of Chestermere. They contacted the parks department of Public Works and it was decided that they would bring the excited children some plants to place in the curb side flower beds at the front entrance of the learning centre, located at 100 Main Street.
On Friday May 22, 2015, they could not have asked for better weather as a few members of Public Works arrived at the centre with 36 plants for the children to plant and take care of going forward. There were three different types of plants and the children got right in there, being very gentle as they put their new plants carefully into their forever home.
Ken Jackson, Parks Supervisor with the City of Chestermere, explained to the children the importance of keeping the flower beds weed free and also keeping the plants properly hydrated.
When they were all done, the children looked at their work and were very proud of themselves and quite excited to watch over the next few weeks as gorgeous flowers start to bloom.
