For most up and coming hockey stars, dreams of playing in the NHL are always on the minds of these young players. But for 9 year old Ethan Hines, just to be on the ice with some NHL stars will definitely be enough….for now.
Ethan Hines is a grade 4 student at Rainbow Creek Elementary and has proudly played for the Chestermere Lakers Atom 3 team for the past three seasons. Ethan wanted to start playing hockey ever since he was a small child and it has always been a big part of his family and a true love for Ethan.
On December 29th, as the Calgary Flames played host to the L.A. Kings, Ethan got to live out every young boys’ dream as he took to the ice. He was selected as the Scotiabank Skater which was a contest that was won due to numerous daily entries (over 2 months’ worth) and he was lucky enough to be chosen out of thousands of entries within Alberta.
With excitement, and likely a little bit of nerves, his parents Rebecca Hines and Marc Guillard, as well as his Best Friend, his grandfather Walter Little (who has played a huge role in Ethan’s love of hockey) watched as Ethan escorted the Calgary Flames onto the ice at the beginning of the game while carrying the Flames flag and then stood proudly with the team on the line during the singing of the national anthem.
With a grin ear to ear as he stepped off the ice, his mom, Rebecca Hines, asked him how it felt to be a part of something like this and this is what he said……”Wow my dream just came true, THANK YOU”!!
Jerome Iginla has always been Ethan’s hockey idol and his favorite team has been the Calgary Flames since the beginning and where he’d like to be drafted to in the future. Who knows where young Ethan’s hockey path will take him, but for that night, a young boys dream came true.
