On November 23, 2015, my friend Manmeet Bhullar was taken from us in a tragic accident. He died as he had lived, helping others.
Dear God
make me more loving and compassionate,
give more of myself in service,
help me see the greatness imbedded in all and enjoy the moment.
Those are Manmeet Bhullar’s words
Today I rise when I just want to sink to my knees and cry for the loss of our friend Manmeet Bhullar. I have known Manmeet for many years, and we have attended many events together.
As you know Manmeet is–was a fierce advocate for his community and for what he believed in. He believed in fighting for the most vulnerable. He articulated stories with passion. He was a man for the people and was setting out to change the world.
He had goals of making politics more palatable for our youth…he did that.He wanted men to know that it was ok to hurt, to acknowledge that, face it head on, and heal…he did that.
He promised to work hard…he did that. He wanted to bridge people together…he did that. He was quoted as saying–work hard and the stars will align.
He had an incredible way with people. It is because he exuded confidence, compassion and enthusiasm even bigger than his stature.
In the words of Sikh Guru Dek Bahadhur 9th Guru of the Sikhs:
God resides in every heart and God is never separate from us
just as fragrance cannot be separated from a flower,an image cannot be separated from a mirror.
Manmeet you are forever here with us, in this space where your booming voice will echo in our hearts and minds.
Kahe Re Buna khojana jayee—Why go out to search for your God in the woods–Search God Within
namaste.
