On June 9, 2015 at approximately 16:00 Hrs, Strathmore RCMP responded to a serious injury motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 791, Rockyview County, Alberta. Due to the serious nature of the incident, Highway 1 eastbound and Highway 791 northbound were closed to conduct an investigation into the causes of the collision. Both Highway 1 and Highway 791 have been re-opened as of 20:00 Hrs.
RCMP investigation has determined that the incident involved three vehicles, one northbound on Highway 791, and two eastbound on Highway 1. The northbound vehicle proceeded onto the Highway 1 crossover after stopping at the intersection, and was struck by the first eastbound vehicle. The second eastbound vehicle subsequently struck the first eastbound vehicle.
The occupants of the first eastbound vehicle, a 17 year old male from Chestermere and a 16 year old female from Langdon, received serious and potentially life threatening injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 47 year old female from Cherstermere, received serious injury. The driver of the third vehicle, a 35 year old male from Strathmore , did not receive any injuries.
Strathmore RCMP, along with the Collision Analyst, continue to investigate the causes to the collision, with intersection and driver attention being a focus.
Charges have not been processed at this time, and will be considered based on the results of the investigation.
