Chestermere, AB – The City of Chestermere is pleased to announce that the next step towards a new recreation and leisure centre is underway with a feasibility study.
“Council is being very thoughtful with its outlook on future recreation needs for our community,” said Mayor Patricia Matthews. “We want to ensure that the planning for recreational amenities is done in the most cost effective manner possible while still providing for the needs and wants of our residents.”
Residents and community organizations have enjoyed the facilities and programs at the Chestermere Regional Community Association for many years but rapid growth has resulted in increased demand for services. These changing dynamics in Chestermere have led the City to investigate the viability and demand for added recreation amenities in the future.
A feasibility study includes several research and consultative components that will lead to a concept plan for a potential facility. Accompanying this concept plan will be estimates for constructing and operating the potential facility.
Once complete, the feasibility study will be used by City Council and Administration to evaluate the next steps for exploring future recreation and leisure amenities for the community.
Many residents have participated in the process thus far and will be invited to contribute to the feasibility study as well. Public consultation activities will take place in May and June and will be open to all residents.
“Chestermere residents are so good at getting involved and giving us their opinion on a variety of topics. We really encourage this and hope it will continue when public consultation sessions happen later this spring,” explained Mayor Matthews.
A Community Task Group has also been appointed by Council and will be instrumental in providing a community, social and business perspective throughout the process.
The feasibility study is expected to be completed in the fall of 2015. For more information about the feasibility study visit www.chestermere.ca/recstudy or contact Kathy Russell (City of Chestermere) at 403-207-7053 or krussell@chestermere.ca.
