Recycling service concerns

Dear Editor:

I wanted to comment on the recent changes that have taken place with our re-cycling program and to say that I am encouraged that our CUI people have apparently been listening to concerns, and complaints from the citizens of Chestermere, with regards to our waste collection policies.
Over the past several months, I have been involved in a lot of chit- chat with other residents of this city regarding how our waste is collected, and for the most part, people have been concerned about the number of trucks required, along with the dollar costs that such a system is costing? relevant questions, especially since we have had some large increases to our tax bills over the past several years.
It has always been my personal view that as we grew in size, it made more economic sense to continue to take all our services in house, otherwise, we would always be at the disadvantage of not being able to control our own costs efficiently and effectively having outside contractors doing this work. Since we are doing many other services ourselves, it would make good economic sense to eventually take everything we do in house, thus controlling our own destiny when it came to key decisions affecting all waste management in the city.
Hopefully, as we continue to grow in size, the City along with their departments, will continue to take feedback and listen to concerns from the citizens, that’s what helps to contribute to a strong and viable community moving forward.

Regards, Paul Graham.
Chestermere Resident.
