On Friday, October 30th, the bleachers were filled with 14 participating teams and several spectators ready to see who would win the coveted Volley for a Cure Trophy. The gym was a sea of pink as a result of the creative team spirit shown by many of the junior and senior high students. This year there were even two teacher teams battling one another. SGA has a wide variety of volleyball talent from those in grade seven right up to grade twelve, so the skill and competition was awesome. In the end the junior high division saw the girls team, “Itty Bitty Spikers” falling short to the victorious “Bench Riders” team. Congratulations to Tommy, Ethan, Nick, Tyler, Roger and Mayiel. Competition was fierce in the senior high/adult division with a strong showing from all involved, included an awesome Alumni team. The final game consisted of the male teacher team, “Viking Pandas” playing the “Scared Hitless” team. After a great final game, the high school kids out served and outplayed the teacher team to claim the cup. Congratulations to Devon, Chase, Shae, Lauren, Jarrett, Emmanuel, and Erik on their exceptional play!
SGA would like to recognize the grade seven team called “The Fearless Pinks” for their great energy which had them win the spirit award this year. Finally, a huge thank you to all involved in this event. Through the donations to participate, St. Gabriel raised $400 for the fight against breast cancer. Well done staff and students on making this annual event a huge success.
