Around 3:30pm today, Strathmore RCMP were dispatched to a serious 3 vehicle collision at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 791. An eyewitness reported a car attempting to turn left across Highway #1 off of Hwy 791 was hit by a car going east on Highway #1. The car that had been heading east was then hit from behind by a third vehicle.
EMS reported that five people were involved with three being transported to hospital. A man believed to be in his 20’s had to be extricated from a vehicle and was taken to Foothills Hospital via Stars air ambulance in serious potentially life threatening condition. A female in her teens was taken by ground ambulance to Foothills Hospital in serious but stable condition and another female was taken by ground to the Peter Lougheed in stable condition with minor injuries.
Eastbound traffic is closed and expected to be that way for two to three hours. Traffic is currently being re-routed a kilometre either side of the intersection. It is being suggested that alternate routes be used in order to avoid the area.
