Yes, and the winners of the Second Annual Chestermere Zucchini Car Races are in! Big thanks this year to pit crew Andria and Paul Faucher and their three kids for building a new race track, and the generosity of The Lakeside Kruzers Car Club for cost of materials! Because of this new track, the times were faster than ever. Wheels and axels are provided free by the Chestermere Ag Society, and this year appreciation goes to the Chestermere Library for being the wheel and axel depot and registration spot prior to Red Ribbon Day.
There are three categories in the race; Under 10, Over 10 years old, and an open category (any age) where you bring your own wheels.
Again for the second year, the Bhupinder Billing family contributed prize money for the first, second and third prize winners in each race. First place winners were, Ashley Werbicki (top) and Rachel Sweeney (below) –shown in the photos. And finally in the open class, the top prize was taken by Tommy Fleger using his own design and wheels.
I understand that the Safeway and Food For Less staff were wondering what the run on zucchini was the weekend of September 11th and 12th…well, now they know!
What fun it has been for the kids ( and adults!) these past few weeks, with the Zucchini Car Races Sept 12th then the Lakeridge Soap Box Derby September 27th.
See you next year at the Chestermere Races.
