Winners Take All! Red Ribbon Trophy and Special Prize Winners 2015

2015 Country Fair

As well as $5000 in cash prizes for Red Ribbon entries, there are trophies and special prizes from generous donors that go to winners of the most points by section, and to classes where donors have dedicated money in memory of Chestermere area residents. Ten large trophies have been dedicated to the various sections in the Red Ribbon with the newest being for the most points in Quilting, donated by the Chestermere Ag Society. This inaugural year that trophy went to Sara Buckingham. The Chestermere Ag Society presented each trophy winner with a small take home trophy and a membership for 2015-2016 in the Ag Society. Other trophy winners were, for Vegetables & Fruit a tie between Jana & Brent Jopko and Jennifer Zambory; Flowers, Terry Greening; Pickles, Sauces, Eggs, Rosemary Clysdale; Baking, Pam Green; Wine, Kathy and Dale Senger; Art, Shelly Rawlusyk; Handicrafts, Lesleyanne Banks; Photography, Kim Bruens; and Jams & Jellies, Jennifer Zambory.
There are two dedicated prizes, one from the Bralich Family and The City of Chestermere for the Craig Lawrence Memorial LEGO competition, where entrants build with a theme around emergency services. Craig was a volunteer with the Chestermere Fire Department before his passing. The three 2015 winners were first place Sehran Aheer with quotes from FF at #59 who were the judges, (“Fantastic job, very well done a great effort.”) , second place to Nate Smith (” Great job! Good theme!”), and third place to Nicholas Lavoie (“Very relevant, the BC fires had an effect on a lot of people in Western Canada, great use of the helicopter!”) The other dedicated prize is in memory of Jane Carlyle, a stellar quilter, whose family pioneered in Chestermere. Thanks to her family, the McDonalds, for their continued donation of prize money. The winners were first prize to Laila Nelson, second prize to Frankye Belanger, and third prize to Terry Lewis. New this year, was a people’s choice section in quilting for “My First Quilt” and this was won by Susan Jankowsky. There is a grand prize and trophy for the family with the most overall points. This year that went to Pete Tindall and Pat Shaw for their entries. Congratulations! And thank you to Karen Gonzales Sutton Group for that cash prize. The children with the most points also get special prizes, and this year the most entries went to brothers Jake and Josh Kraft. They won sailing lessons for next summer donated by the Calgary Yacht Club, located here at Chestermere lake. Fun for them next summer when they are not preparing their Red Ribbon entries! And keeping up with their tradition of entering and supporting the Red Ribbon, Our Lady of Wisdom won, for the 4th year in a row, the school with the most Red Ribbon entries. Way to go kids, parents and teachers!
Two special photo prizes donated by Marjorie and Doug McKay of Re/max went to Christine Leblanc and Jake Kraft for firsts, second prizes to Rob Befus and Joshua Kraft, and third prizes to Jen Allore and Michael Sidorenko. The other special photo prizes donated by the City of Chestermere went to Michelle Herman 1st, Angela Cranston 2nd and 3rd Michael Sidorenko.
Stay tuned next week for results of the 2nd Annual Zucchini Car races and the totals of the amazing Old Fashioned Pie Auction in aid of STARS Air Ambulance. And if you had fun at the Country Fair and Red Ribbon go straight to the Chestermere Ag Society FB page and volunteer for next year–it will be bigger and better than ever, and a whole lot of fun. https://www.facebook.com/ChestermereAGsociety?fref=ts
