Chestermere, AB – The City of Chestermere is pleased to announce that funding for community groups providing preventative social services for Chestermere residents has been allocated for the 2017 year.
In addition to the wide variety of programs offered through the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) function, the City offers Provincial FCSS funding or United Way funding to community social services groups.
The Human Services Advisory Board (HSAB), comprised of members of Council and residents, provides oversight to the funding process and thoroughly reviews all applications for eligibility, alignment with the Social Investment Framework, capacity, vision, and service delivery strategy.
“We have a lot of great volunteers and good people who are working towards making a better community,” said Tommy Fleger, Chair of the Human Services Advisory Board. “As the board, we go through all the applications in a lot of detail to decide how best to divvy up the funding that the Province gives us.”
The FCSS funding for this year includes support for Synergy’s Youth Leadership Education Program and Wellness Education Program, Camp Chestermere’s Teen Leadership Development Program, and Prairie Waters Elementary School’s Awakening Passions project.
The United Way funded projects are the South East Rocky View Community Resource Centre, the Formative 5 Early Childhood Initiative, Camp Chestermere’s Gateway Coordinator and Accredited Supports to the Community (ASC) Association’s Healthy Families initiative.
Donelda Laing, Director of Community Services, remarked that the Board and Community Services team are happy to support these valuable community projects in 2017. “We are very pleased to offer this funding that will allow fantastic new projects to begin and last year’s successful programs to continue or expand.”
Community grants are provided for a one year term. Next fall, applications for 2018 funding will open and the HSAB invites any interested groups or organizations to apply.
