With the season all wrapped up for CMHA (Chestermere Minor Hockey Association), they held their annual awards ceremony on April 15, 2016. This season, with all its successes and triumphs, also was a season of loss and grief as the CMH community lost Jaydon Sommerfeld, Markus Lavallee and Quinton Peplinski in separate motor vehicle accidents in the course of the last year.
The ESSO Medals of Achievement are given out for a few different categories: Most Improved Player, Most Sportsmanlike and Most Dedicated.

The Players Choice Award is chosen by the Players…it does not include coaches or managers. Given to the player they feel:
1) Works hard at practice and games to improve as a player.
2) Is respectful and supportive of all the players and coaches on the team.
3) Has fun playing hockey and enjoys coming to the rink.
The criteria are fairly loose to try and make it available to any player on the team, not just the top skilled players. This years winners are:

The Tony Gramblicka Memorial Award is presented annually to the one official who must be:
– an active member within the Chestermere Indus Referees’ Association
– in at least their 3rd season as an official,
– be someone who has shown dedication and commitment to the CIRA and officiating in general with things they do on and off the ice.
This year’s winner was Dylan Tucker.
The CMHA Most Sportsmanlike Team is presented annually to the one CMHA team who best exemplifies sportsmanship towards the game, the other team and the officials as voted on by the Chestermere Indus Referee Association. This year’s winning team was Novice 1 – Coached by Alex Halat.

Craig Kletzel Memorial Hockey Foundation award is presented to an athlete who works hard, displays honesty and has the personal desire to excel – which are key ingredients needed to fulfill one’s dreams. This award will provide the opportunity to better their skills and sportsmanship. This year’s winner was Remy Rae – Atom 2.

The Garrett Moore Memorial Award is presented annually to a PeeWee player who exhibits the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership and unselfishness. They also best represent the “heart of the team”. This year’s recipient was Davis Johnson – Peewee 4.
The Shawn Goodon Memorial Award is presented annually to the most dedicated Bantam player who exhibits the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership and citizenship both on and off the ice. This year’s winner was Colby Rink – Bantam 2.

The Tyler Trithart Memorial Award is presented annually to the Midget Player who exhibits the qualities of tenacity and perseverance on and off the ice. This year’s winner was Zac Quast – Midget 2.
The Clint Moffatt Memorial Award is presented annually to the Chestermere goalie who exemplifies sportsmanship, self-control, a positive attitude and team play. This year’s winner was Jordan Humphries – Midget 1.
The Brian Blais Memorial Award is presented annually to the one coach for their dedication to the player, the parent and the game of hockey. This year’s winner is Jeremy Thiemann – Peewee 4.
This year was the 25th anniversary of CMHA and the organization had 452 registered players with 28 teams and 35 in the Tiny Mite program and they also had another successful Fundraising Raffle raising $25,000 for CMHA. This season saw many successes both in league and provincials as Midget 1 team won CAHL league banner. CMHA was also represented in provincials by BANTAM 1 (zone 6 Rep Bantam B Provincials)
