Over the past ten weeks, we did a weekly feature on the history of the Chestermere Regional Food Bank that was a count down to the organizations ten-year anniversary. On May 28, 2016, the Chestermere Regional Food Bank held a celebration in the parking lot of Eric’s No Frills.

The event had live music, games, a vendor market, activities, BBQ, face painting and much more! Hundreds came out to attend the event, which saw around 3000 lbs. of food donated at the event and around $6800 in cash and gift cards.

Val Yanke, Special Events Coordinator with the Chestermere Regional Food Bank, added, “There is a potential opportunity to receive a matching donation up to the amount of $5,000. along with some funds still to come in, for sold auction items. Assuming we can incorporate these figures, the total anticipated funds raised, will be approximately $12,800”. Yanke adds that the funds were being raised primarily for operating costs, as the demand for assistance has been significantly on the rise lately.

Organizations like the Chestermere Regional Food Bank rely heavily on volunteers and donations and the same is said for when events like this are held.

“Firstly, we’d like to thank all the Chestermere residents, along with other friends and families, that attended and supported this event.
Secondly, we still couldn’t have had such a successful event, if we didn’t have the support from local businesses, friends, other individuals, in the form of raffle / auction items, volunteering and cash donations”, adds Yanke.
