Flowers, Fruits, and Veggies–Red Ribbons Await!

You have read lots about the pies, the sauerkraut and the preserves, but any country fair bench show is not worth its salt without entries of the many fruits, veggies, flowers and plants that grow in the community. The Red Ribbon Committee has engaged several highly qualified judges to assess quality and beauty of the flowers, veggies, herbs, fruits, and plants that will be entered into the 2016, the 27th annual, Chestermere Ag Society Red Ribbon Competition. Theresa Zerr, fully accredited through AAAS http://www.albertaagsocieties.ca/ will be the main horticultural judge. Along with Theresa, Wade and Candace Lester of Garden Scents will judge tomatoes–and there are always lots entered! If you are interested in entering the best of YOUR garden, make sure you check out the booklet with all the rules and regulations. Entry RULES must be followed. If it says one spike of gladiolus and you put two in your vase, the entry is disqualified. If it says 3 cleaned potatoes and you put four on your white paper plate, it will be disqualified. So read carefully! Rules are explained in the booklet which you can pick up at the CRCA office, at the library, and at City Hall and other locations around Chestermere, or download it from the Country Fair FB page at https://www.facebook.com/ChestermereCountryFair/
The Red Ribbon Committee has received nearly $5000 in prize money from the many, many generous donors and supporters who see keeping agriculture and a local fair alive in this community as important. Some of that prize money could be yours for entering the best of your garden. For tips and information on entering your flower entries there are documents on the FB page to help you out and Alberta Agriculture provides Judging Standards for Horticultural Exhibits free as an online publication http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$department/deptdocs.nsf/all/agdex19
Entries come in on Friday September 9th to the Chestermere Rec Centre Curling Rink 201 W Chestermere Drive from 11am to 6pm–NO LATER and with the exception of honey, only between those hours on that day. If you have any questions PM from the FB page or phone Jen 403 200 8046 or Pat 403 273 5108 with your questions.
Good luck and see you at the Fair!
