Chestermere is a beautiful city! The natural beauty, of the lakes, ponds and green spaces, play a significant role in making Chestermere visually appealing, but it is also due to the efforts and creativity of dedicated residents. Each year, City Council sets up several advisory committees to gain input from the public about specific topics that affect our city and its people. The Streetscape Committee helps visually enhance Chestermere’s streetscape and assets, recognize our identity and heritage, and encourage the visual appeal of commercial, public and residential spaces.
As a City Councillor, I serve on various committees, and Streetscape is one of my favourites. We investigate and recommend public art and beautification projects by collaborating with residents, developers, and organizations. The Committee consists of two City Councillors, one or two city employees, and five to ten Chestermere residents. We meet once a month and discuss projects for each year’s budget. Our efforts have resulted in winter lights in the parks, colourful street banners, flower pots and planters, the rose garden, artwork (e.g., the bulrushes behind City Hall and in various locations), the Chestermere in Bloom program, and the Birth Forest.
The City of Chestermere encourages you to bring forward your ideas and feedback on issues that are important to you. We offer a variety of ongoing and ad-hoc volunteer boards and committees on topics like lakefront parks, planning, the library, and human services. We are currently exploring new ways for you to get involved in our City’s activities, budget, and services. If you are interested in joining Streetscape or any other committee, watch for notices in The Anchor this September, check out the City of Chestermere website, or contact a Council member directly.
